These paintings are in private collections and the collections of Abbot Hall Art Gallery and Huddersfield Art Gallery, UK and take their primary source of inspiration from the seminal 1977 album ‘Low’ by the musician David Bowie.

Painted over the course of 2004 – 2006, the images present a sequence of empty spaces from transitional environments such as train stations and waiting rooms.

Free from ornament, the paintings draw on a renaissance understanding of perspective founded by the Italian master Brunelleschi and architectural forms influenced by the art deco movement. Each picture captures an atmosphere of estrangement, creating a visual world which exists in-between the places where we all have identity.
